I need to clarify the truth about certain controversies and certain misportrayals that have caused a great deal of unfounded backlash, bullying, and deceit to go around.
There is a large amount of people who were mislead and keep spreading malicious & slanderous misinformation regarding the Teen Choice Awards and fan-voted award shows in general. I am posting this now due to slanderous posts being posted on the tag so the record needs to be set straight.
Your VOTES do matter, have value, and do count! I will probably be making another post that addresses these facts again in 2017.
Voting does matter. The majority of the winners that end up being selected correlate directly with who received the overall majority of the votes or who had the strongest voting campaign. The TCA panel electronically tabulated the votes via the site, twitter, and app.
They do factor in the voting. ALL fan voted award shows utilize the same type of disclaimer, the producers and a committee screen the votes. I know about the panels who work with these type of shows.
The voting is utilized and factored in the decision making process. The disclaimer did not say the public voting did not matter at tall. If you analyze the voting, it is clear that the producers factor in who the majority of people voted for which encompasses site/facebook votes as well as analysis of the twitter voting campaigns. The Kids Choice Awards, PCA’s, VMA, EMAs, and pretty much every fan-voted show have the same disclaimer. They determine the votes, utilize them, and in the end the producers designate the winner based on that.
“Winners for the Teen Choice Awards were determined through voting on the TeenChoiceAwards.com website,” read the disclaimer. “The results of the voting were tabulated electronically by TeenChoiceAwards.com and confirmed by a committee of Fox representatives. Winners are determined based on the nominees in each category with the highest number of eligible votes. [Production company] Teenasaurus Rox Inc. had the right to determine the winners from the top four vote-getters of the nominees in each of 88 categories. Ultimate choice was determined solely by the producers.”
People look at screen caps of old disclaimers from 2013 and 2014, where it says Ultimate Choice solely decided by producers and misunderstand the last line. Shane Dawson ran with that line to declare it is completely rigged which is not true. The line referring to Ultimate Choice is actually a specific category that is not fan-voted. It was a distinguished achievement award like the Choice Decade Award or Acuvue Inspiration Award where the fans don’t vote for the categories. Selena Gomez and Ashton Kutcher won the Ultimate Choice award which was not fan-voted. People have slandered the Teen Choice Awards for years due to misunderstanding that.
I have known people who have worked with the TCA’s before and they do make an effort to tabulate/evalute all of the fan votes. Most of the winners match the fan campaigns for winners but people ignore that.
This is not accurate and people are being mislead greatly by opportunistic Shane Dawson as well as people who miscontrue part of the disclaimer. I know people who worked for the show for the past number of years. They do count all of the site votes as well as evaluate the twitter voting from fans to make the final selections that the producers committee screens before announcing the winners.
People are screen capping old versions of the disclaimer. The disclaimer states that the votes are electronically tabulated through the site and fans decides the winners from the top 4 vote getters that the Teen Fox committee screens.
People misconstrue the last line from older shows. The “ Ultimate Choice is solely decided by producers” is referring to a specific category that is not even fan-voted to begin with. Selena Gomez, Ashton Kutcher, and etc won in those categories. Then in another year, they had a similar line stating the producers only chose the Acuvue Inspiration Award ( which is not a fan-voted category). People generally misunderstand the last line. People ignore that the majority of winners correlate with the nominees receiving most of the fan votes/campaigns.
When they say Ultimate Choice, ( referring to TCA disclaimer in 2014, they were referring to the Ultimate Choice category. The last line of the disclaimer from various years usually indicates that a special category like Choice Decade award or Acuvue Inspiration Award or Ultimate Choice Award or whatever special is solely chosen by producers. They did NOT say all of the winners were soley selected by producers, in fact the actual disclaimer makes it clear that the winners are determined through the voting tabulated via the site, etc.
For example, Selena Gomez and Ashton Kutcher won the Ultimate Choice Award. That award and the specialty/broad achievement awards are selected by the producers. Fans don’t vote for those. Fans do vote for the other 88 categories/nominees, which the producers determine through the voting

There are legalities involved and the official rules on the site state how the votes and winners are selected in more detail. Your votes do matter. Angry Exo/K Pop fans were upset because they were basing it on a poll ( that was not part of the voting) as well as only looking at twitter. People forget that the main voting came from the Teen Choice Awards site via facebook voting via American voting only.
I guess people forget that Super Junior won 2 Teen Choice Awards back in 2015, so this aggravated backlash is rather unfounded.
Also, I am not going to get into detail about another controversy but the majority of winners are NOT announced during the telecast. There are time constraints and they tend to recognize the winners who attended during the show. The twitter retweet samples were attached to every nominee, no celeb was ‘exploited’ for publicity. The celebrities who won receive their surfboards about a year or so after the telecast due to them being engraved with their names. It works the same way, they announce the nominees to the media, and there is voting via the site, twitter, and app.

Do not listen to Shane Dawson or other embittered youtubers who have exploited angry young fans over the Teen Choice Awards to gain respect, attention, and popularity.
The Teen Choice Awards and other fan voted award shows DO use the public votes in consideration in making the final selections for the winners.
The official voting rules for the 2015 Teen Choice Awards appear to guarantee that fans will have final say in choosing this year’s winners – in 2014, the official rules matched the policy stated in the post-show disclaimer.

There are all sorts of legal ramifications involved for the network.
“Winners of Teen Choice 2015 are determined using the votes cast on the site, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram,” read the 2015 rules on TeenChoiceAwards.com. “Votes are tabulated electronically and winners are determined based on the nominees in each category with the highest number of eligible votes.“
That is the standard and guideline that the producers use. People need to remember this.
This is still relevant to 2018. Please participate and vote! These big blogs discouraging people to vote for the TCA’s are HURTING our fandom, cast, crew, and show! All fan-voted award shows are the same! They incoporate the voting and fandom campaigns in their selection process of the winners!
